VANI JAYARAM ENTHRALLS CHIREC STUDENTS

Vani Jayaram, one of the greatest singers of our times, visited CHIREC on the 28th of June 2011 and mesmerized one and all with her captivating presence and performance. She is best known for her rendition
of the timeless classical number, Bole Re Papi Hara, for Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1971 Hindi film, ‘Guddi’. The movie and the song went on to become legends in their own right, and Vani Jayaram was introduced to the world.
Vani Jayaram was born in Vellore in Tamil Nadu, in a family of musicians. Her mother is the disciple of Ranga Ramunaja Iyengar, a great veena exponent. Ms. Jayaram studied Carnatic music under the tutelage of maestros such as Kadalur Srinivasa Iyengar, T.R. Balasubramanian and R.S. Mani. Her Hindustani light-classical music guru was Ustad Abdul Rahman Khan.
With her impeccable style of singing and pronunciation, Ms. Jayaram has the unique ability to sing in a multitude of languages with complete ease. Her clear pronunciation and sweet voice give any song a touch of class. Even the most ordinary lyrics gain a mystical quality when sung by her. The ease with which she hits a high note, as well as and her quick transitions are a treat to the ears of any music lover. Ms. Jayaram is a formally trained classical singer and her versatility ranges the entire spectrum of music. She has rendered classical songs in Carnatic and Hindustani styles, ghazals, light and pop songs and some very popular folk songs.
Ms. Jayaram was welcomed and escorted to the venue. After an introduction by the Principal, Ms. Jayaram was presented with a bouquet, followed by a welcome song, ‘Hum Ko Man Ki Shakti Dena.’
After this, Ms. Jayaram addressed the students wherein she spoke about youth, values, life and the role of the arts in our life. She is passionate about painting and sketching as well; and showed the students her masterful artwork. She encouraged the students to be focused and committed and gain the best from their school life. She then encouraged students to come up on the stage and sing. This was followed by an enthralling performance by Ms. Jayaram which captivated the students and staff alike.
